Principal's Message
January 4th, 2016
Dear Funston Community,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful time with family and friends during the winter vacation and are ready to begin an exciting 2016 year at Funston. Our school year got off to a great start with some wonderfully successful events such as: our back to school bash in August, quarterly honor roll breakfasts, student assemblies, perfect attendance incentives, and students of the week. Our teachers and staff have worked diligently to ensure students are rewarded for their hard work and dedication.
I am thankful for our partnerships who have helped to provide our students with amazing opportunities. The Logan Square Neighborhood Association who has provided us with academic and extracurricular classes for our students and their families, as well as provide us with 17 parent mentors who tutor in Pre-K through 5th grade classrooms on a daily basis. Our cooperate sponsors: Gold Eagle, Sprouting Leaders, Union Tank Car, among others who provided all of our students in pre-kindergarten through third grade with Christmas presents. Finally, thank you to Horace Mann for helping us partner with Aldi, who donated 45 desktop computers for our school. We have a lot to be grateful for this holiday season!
I am looking forward to all of the great things 2016 will bring for our students, families, and community. I hope to see you all very soon when school is back in session on January 4th!
Sincerely,
Julie Hallums
Interim Principal
